The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore has launched a pilot project for a new on-screen marking system as part of preparations to introduce e-marking for examination papers.
On the first day of the pilot project, 150 students from Government College University (GCU), Punjab College, and Superior College participated in an examination using e-sheets. The exercise aims to evaluate the practical application of the new system and assess administrative procedures.
Examination officials review arrangements
Muzammil Mahmood, Chairman of the Task Force on Examinations, reviewed the arrangements for the pilot project alongside Lahore Board Chairman Professor Badr-ul-Islam and Controller of Examinations Tauseef-ur-Rehman.
According to Muzammil Mahmood, the e-marking system will help boost students' confidence in the examination process. He noted that the use of e-sheets would also make it easier to identify candidates who have someone else take the exam on their behalf (impersonators).
Expert teachers will also be able to grade papers
Professor Badr-ul-Islam stated that under the new system, expert teachers from across the country would be able to grade examination papers; however, the responsibility of grading would be entrusted only to qualified teachers who meet the prescribed criteria.
Controller of Examinations Tauseef-ur-Rehman said that the implementation of e-marking would help significantly reduce complaints regarding the re-evaluation of examination papers.
