The film Moana could prove to be an expensive deal for Disney

The film Moana could prove to be a costly affair for Disney as it has not been well-received in theaters.

Disney's live-action film 'Moana' has failed to perform as expected at the box office, after which experts have warned that the film could face a loss of more than $100 million in theaters.

According to reports, the film, made on a budget of $250 million, made $43 million in North America and $95 million worldwide on its opening weekend, which is far below estimates.

Analysts say that bringing a live-action version so soon after the 2016 animated film and 'Moana 2' due in 2024 proved to be a big mistake for Disney, as audiences wanted to see a new story, not a new version of the old film.

Experts believe that if Moana's earnings do not increase significantly, it could prove to be a major financial loss for Disney, after which the studio may have to reconsider its live-action remake strategy.
