The Punjab government has increased the upper age limit and the number of permissible attempts for candidates wishing to take the Provincial Management Service (PMS) examination. The Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) has issued a formal notification in this regard.
Under the new decision, the maximum age limit for appearing in the PMS examination has been raised from 30 to 32 years, and candidates will now be able to take the exam four times instead of three.
However, this relaxation regarding age and attempts has not been granted on a permanent basis. According to the notification, this concession is a one-time measure applicable only to the PMS examinations of 2026 and 2027.
Withdrawal of the August 19 Notification
Through the latest notification, the Punjab government has also announced the withdrawal of the earlier notification (No. SOR-I(S&GAD)9-2/2022), which was issued on August 19, 2026.
The Punjab government made this decision by exercising the powers conferred under Section 23 of the Punjab Civil Servants Act, 1974. The notification states that the Governor of Punjab approved the increase in the age limit and the number of attempts for PMS candidates, notwithstanding anything contained in the relevant rules.
The latest notification was issued from Lahore on October 2, 2026, and copies have been forwarded to the relevant authorities and institutions for necessary action and information.
