Salman Naseer, Chief Executive of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has announced the launch of a new tournament in the near future called 'HBL PSL Sixes'. The objective of this event is to offer fans a new format of cricket while extending the league's reach to cities that have not yet hosted PSL matches.
Speaking on a PSL podcast, Salman Naseer explained that the new tournament will not take place during the main PSL season; instead, it will be held during the break between the main events.
According to him, the dates for the 'Sixes' tournament will be determined based on player availability and weather conditions.
Plans to Establish the 'Sixes' Tournament as a Permanent Event
Salman Naseer stated that there are plans to develop the 'PSL Sixes' into a regular, recurring event in the coming years. This tournament has the potential to be an engaging and entertaining experience for fans.
He also expressed a desire to use this initiative to reach smaller cities and stadiums that have not previously hosted Pakistan Super League matches. This move could facilitate the expansion of PSL-related activities into more regions.
The Evolution of the Number of Teams in the PSL
The Pakistan Super League began in 2016 with five teams. Later, in 2018, the number of teams increased with the addition of the Multan Sultans.
Eight teams participated in PSL 11, while, according to the released schedule, PSL 12 is set to take place from March 18 to May 2, 2027. All eight franchises will participate in this edition as well.
