Key matters regarding preparations for the 12th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) have been discussed, with a proposal to commence the season on March 18, 2027. A virtual meeting of the PSL Governing Council, chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, was held to deliberate on the schedule, player selection, and financial affairs.
According to sources, the final schedule for the 2027 PSL matches will be prepared by the Cricket Committee through mutual consultation. It has been decided that no PSL matches will be held in Lahore or Rawalpindi between April 3 and April 11, 2027, due to the South Asian Games scheduled to take place in Pakistan during that period.
The possibility of hosting the tournament's final and closing ceremony in Lahore is also under consideration, though no final decision has been reached yet.
Consultations on Player Auctions and Team Preparations
During the meeting, various proposals regarding the mechanisms for player retention and the direct signing of players by teams were reviewed. A proposal to hold the player auction for PSL 12 on January 23 is also being considered.
No final decision has been made yet regarding the proposal to host the auction abroad.
Key Decisions Regarding Financial Matters
The Governing Council set a deadline of October 31 for the settlement of outstanding payments. According to sources, it has also been decided to abolish—starting from the upcoming season—the additional charges previously imposed on team owners for delayed payments.
Furthermore, various proposals concerning potential adjustments to the PSL’s financial model were also discussed. Reaction from the Islamabad Team Owner
Ali Naqvi, the owner of the Islamabad team, shared his thoughts regarding the meeting on the social media platform X, describing it as positive. According to him, decisions were made concerning various measures, including key financial and administrative matters.
