Prime Minister's Task Force is taking practical steps to increase the efficiency of ports

The Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms is working on improving the performance of Pakistani ports. Trade activities are being promoted through reforms in the port system, modern facilities and effective management.

A plan has also been made to establish a world-class specialized training institute with the aim of developing skilled manpower for the port sector.

An effective monitoring system will be established for annual and surprise inspections of ports, off-dock terminals, customs stations and trade systems. Modern facilities and a safe environment in the inspection stations will increase the speed and efficiency of cargo handling.

Focus is being given to upgrading inspection centers, providing round-the-clock operation and modern scanning facilities under the Customs Rules.

The task force and relevant agencies including the NLC are taking coordinated steps. It has been proposed to make the cargo inspection process faster and more transparent with modern equipment, CCTV surveillance and improved security.

Operational problems are being solved by expanding portable weighing scales, regular calibration and high-value cargo areas. Special attention is being paid to improving cargo handling at ports through additional facilities and better administrative scheduling.

Upgrading port infrastructure and administrative reforms will enhance Pakistan's trade capacity and global competitiveness.
