Messi sets a record of scoring in 7 consecutive matches in World Cup history

Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has achieved another historic milestone at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first footballer to score in seven consecutive matches in World Cup history.

Messi not only scored a stunning free kick in the 80th minute of the match against Jordan to give Argentina a 3-1 lead but also set a new world record.

With this achievement, Messi also broke the historic record of France's Just Fontaine and Brazil's Jairzinho of scoring in six consecutive World Cup matches. Just Fontaine achieved this feat in 1958 while Jairzinho achieved this feat in the 1970 World Cup.

Messi's consecutive goal-scoring streak began in the pre-quarterfinals against Australia in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, after which he also scored against the Netherlands, Croatia and France, playing an important role in making Argentina the world champion.

Messi is in excellent form at the FIFA World Cup 2026. After scoring a hat-trick against Algeria and two goals against Austria, he has now scored against Jordan.

After this goal against Jordan, Messi's total number of goals in the World Cup has reached 19, with which he is further consolidating his record-breaking performance.
