iPhone 18 Pro Max network issues, Apple issues emergency update

Apple has released a new carrier update for iPhone 18 Pro Max users on the US network AT&T. This update was introduced to resolve network issues faced by users running the iOS 27.2 beta.
According to reports, the new version (72.0.3) aims to fix glitches related to calls, text messages, and mobile data. Some affected users saw "SOS" appear in the status bar instead of network signal bars, disrupting standard mobile services.
Apple has released carrier updates previously as well
Apple released carrier update 72.1 for devices running iOS 27.0 about a week ago, but iPhones running the iOS 27.2 beta were using version 72.0.2 during that time.
Prior to this, the company had also provided a carrier update alongside iOS 27.0.1 to prevent the network issue from spreading to more devices. However, reports indicate that for phones where network service had completely failed, a software update was insufficient, and hardware replacement became necessary.
Which iPhones were affected by the issue?
According to the report, the glitch appeared to be limited to the iPhone 18 Pro Max in the US, while the iPhone 18 Pro remained unaffected. The difference is attributed to the modems used in the two models.
In the US market, the iPhone 18 Pro Max comes with a Qualcomm modem, whereas the iPhone 18 Pro utilizes Apple's C2 modem. The new carrier update is an effort to restore network service for affected users and resolve connection-related issues.
