Alleged corruption in Bangladesh Premier League, three people charged

The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Integrity Unit has charged three individuals, including former board director Mukhlis-ur-Rehman, with various violations of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code following an investigation into last season’s Bangladesh Premier League.

According to the BCB, the three individuals were involved in the BPL in various capacities last season. The board confirmed Mukhlis-ur-Rehman’s inclusion in the list in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The investigation against Mukhlis-ur-Rehman was initiated in January following an investigative report published by journalist Riyad Azim on his official Facebook page.

Mukhlis-ur-Rehman was elected as the BCB director after the October 6 elections, while Aminul Islam later made him the head of the audit committee. However, he resigned from the board in January after the investigation report came out.

According to the BCB, the current proceedings are part of an ongoing overall investigation into alleged corruption in the past few editions of the BPL.

Earlier in May, four more people were charged in the same investigation, including a local cricketer. In the 2025-26 BPL, Sameenur Rahman, who was associated with Chittagong Royals, faced a life ban after being found guilty of various charges, including betting-related activities.

On the other hand, BCB president Tamim Iqbal has already said that he is not in favour of continuing the BPL under the current system. Following his stance, there is also a debate about the future format and administrative system of the league.
