627 government schools closed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, teacher shortage the biggest reason

The annual survey report of the Education Department on the situation of government schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has revealed that 627 schools are inactive. According to the report, a large number of them are schools where teachers are not available.

According to the data of the Education Department, 411 government schools in the merged districts while 216 in the settled areas of the province are not active at present.

The report states that 226 schools are closed due to unavailability of teachers. 66 schools are where there are no students, while 28 schools are inactive due to various conflicts. In addition, teaching activities are not taking place due to occupation of 11 schools.

Looking at the district-wise data, North Waziristan has the highest number of 111 government schools that are inactive. South Waziristan is in the second place with 99 schools, while Upper Kohistan has 68 schools closed.

53 schools were found inactive in Kurram, 45 in Bannu subdivision and 44 in Bannu. 29 schools are closed in Kohistan Lower, 27 in Khyber and 16 in Hangu.

According to the report, 13 in Battagram, 7 in Mansehra, 6 in Tank and 5 in Peshawar are inactive.

Some schools were also found closed in other districts. 4 each in Swat and Charsadda while 3 schools in Shangla are not active. 2 each in Lakki Marwat and Nowshera while one each in Mardan, Karak, Kohat and Swabi is inactive.

Efforts are being made to know the position of the provincial education minister on this report of the education department.
