Pakistan's exports have witnessed a significant increase over the past decade; national exports reached $30.139 billion in the 2025-26 fiscal year, up from $20.787 billion in 2015-16. This represents an increase of approximately 45 percent during this period.
Javed Balwani, Chief Coordinator of the All Pakistan Exporters Associations Forum, welcomed the government's focus on boosting exports and emphasized the importance of regular consultative meetings between the Prime Minister and exporters.
He stated that maintaining continuous contact with representatives of the export sector could help identify and resolve industrial issues while also enhancing Pakistan's competitiveness in global markets.
Clarification on Export Sector Performance
Javed Balwani noted that during an address at the stock market, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had pointed out the underperformance of certain specific export sectors. However, some media reports created the impression that Pakistan's entire export industry had failed to increase exports—a portrayal that does not accurately reflect the performance of the export sector as a whole.
He added that the Prime Minister has consistently prioritized export-led industrial growth and regularly holds consultative meetings with stakeholders in the export industry.
Need for Increased Exports and Investment
According to Jawed Bilwani, exporters recognize the need for Pakistan to not only boost exports but also enhance investment, value addition, and competitiveness in global markets.
He identified the government's emphasis on increasing exports, improving product quality, and strengthening industrial competitiveness as a key policy priority. In his view, continuous consultation between the government and exporters can play a vital role in resolving industrial issues and further enhancing the country's export capacity.
