Pak-UK trade at highest level in history, surpasses $6 billion

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott has said that bilateral trade between Pakistan and the UK has reached an all-time high of over $6 billion last year. She said that the UK is Pakistan’s most important economic partner in Europe and also Pakistan’s third largest export market.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and British National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell held an important meeting in which it was agreed to further expand security, trade, investment and development cooperation. Jane Marriott said that the UK has shown keen interest in Pakistan’s reform agenda.
Regarding economic relations, more than 200 British companies are active in Pakistan and the total investment has exceeded Rs 910 billion. These companies are playing a significant role in promoting employment, technology transfer, tax revenue and exports.
The High Commissioner said that Pakistan is active at the global level to strengthen diplomatic, economic and strategic partnerships and this strong relationship between the two countries is further strengthening the foundation for sustainable development and economic stability.
