LPG price significantly higher than the government-fixed rate; being sold for up to 480 rupees per kilogram

Citizens, already distressed by low pressure and load-shedding of piped natural gas, are now forced to purchase LPG at exorbitant prices. Although the government has set the price of LPG at Rs 279 per kilogram for the month of October, it is being sold in the retail market at rates ranging from Rs 430 to Rs 480 per kilogram.

Irfan Khokhar, Chairman of the LPG Distributors Association, has stated that LPG prices have reached an all-time high, with domestic cylinders being sold in various regions at prices significantly above the government-mandated rates.

Price of Domestic Cylinders Exceeds Rs 7,000

According to Irfan Khokhar, the price of LPG in mountainous regions has climbed to Rs 600 per kilogram, with domestic cylinders selling for Rs 7,200. He noted that in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, LPG is being sold at approximately Rs 500 per kilogram, while the price for a domestic cylinder has reached Rs 6,000.

He pointed out that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has set the official price for LPG at Rs 279 per kilogram and the price for a domestic cylinder at Rs 3,350 for the month of October.

Demand for Measures to Control Prices

The Chairman of the LPG Distributors Association has urged the government to utilize the SSGC terminal to help regulate prices and to ensure the immediate import of LPG. These steps, he argued, would improve market supply and enable consumers to purchase gas at the officially prescribed rates.

Citizens Distressed by Expensive Gas

Meanwhile, citizens state that inflation has already severely impacted their household budgets. Furthermore, despite paying their Sui gas bills, they are forced to purchase alternative fuel due to low gas pressure and load-shedding.

According to them, they are burdened by both the payment of gas bills and the high cost of purchasing LPG—a situation that has exacerbated the hardships faced, particularly by low-income households. Citizens have demanded that effective measures be taken to ensure LPG prices are brought in line with government-mandated rates.
